Namsan rises 265 meters above central Seoul, with N Seoul Tower occupying the summit area above the city’s historic core.
This Namsan and N Seoul Tower guide explains the park, the cable car, walking and bus access, observatory tickets, summit landmarks, and current operating information.

1. Namsan and N Seoul Tower
Namsan (남산) stands in the center of Seoul and has served as a city landmark since the Joseon dynasty. The mountain was developed as a public park in 1968 after substantial damage during the early twentieth century. Today, the park combines wooded roads, walking routes, historic remains, summit plazas, and the tower complex.
N Seoul Tower (N서울타워) was established as a broadcasting tower with a sightseeing observatory. The summit address is 105 Namsangongwon-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. The tower complex and Namsan Park are related but operate separately: the park is open around the clock, while the observatory, restaurants, shops, cable car, and other facilities follow their own schedules.

The observation deck provides an elevated city view, but admission is not required to enter Namsan Park or the outdoor summit area. This distinction matters when planning the visit: walking through the park and reaching the tower plaza are separate from purchasing an observatory ticket.
📍 TripKorea's Tip: Decide first whether the priority is the park, the cable-car ride, or the paid observatory. Each component has different hours and costs, and none should be treated as one combined ticket.
2. Reaching Namsan by Cable Car, Bus, or Foot
The Namsan Cable Car (남산케이블카) connects its lower station at 83 Sopa-ro, Jung-gu, with the summit area. The system opened on May 12, 1962, and the current operator identifies it as Korea’s first passenger cable car. The line covers approximately 600 meters, and each car has a listed maximum capacity of 48 passengers.

Current cable-car hours are 10:00–23:00, with ticket sales ending at 22:30. The operator states that the service runs throughout the year, although strong winds and other weather conditions can cause a temporary suspension.
Individual round-trip fares are 15,000 KRW for adults aged 13 or older and 11,500 KRW for children aged 36 months through 12 years. One-way fares are 12,000 KRW for adults and 9,000 KRW for children. The 9,000/11,500 KRW concession prices also apply to eligible seniors, national merit recipients, and visitors with disabilities when supporting identification is presented. Tickets are sold on site.
The lower station can be approached from Myeongdong. The tower operator directs visitors from Myeongdong Station Exit 5 toward Hoehyeon Intersection and then to the Namsan outdoor inclined elevator, also called the Namsan Ormi, for access to the cable-car platform. The inclined elevator operates from 09:00 to 23:00 but is suspended for inspection every Monday from 09:00 to 14:00.
Public buses 01A and 01B serve the summit area. The tower operator lists a dispatch interval of six to nine minutes, with service from 06:30 until 23:00. Walking approaches begin from several points, including the Sam-soon Steps, Namsan Public Library, and the National Theater of Korea. The published Sam-soon Steps route is listed at 40 minutes.

🚨 Warning: Cable-car and outdoor-elevator operations can change because of weather, strong winds, maintenance, or inspections. Check the live operator notice before relying on either service.
3. N Seoul Tower Observatory Hours and Tickets
The N Seoul Tower observatory is open from 10:00 to 22:30 on weekdays and from 10:00 to 23:00 on weekends and public holidays. New visitors are not admitted during the final 30 minutes before closing. Operating hours may change because of weather or other conditions.
Current observatory admission is 29,000 KRW for adults aged 13 or older. Children aged three through 12 and seniors aged 65 or older pay 23,000 KRW. Children under 36 months do not require a ticket when accompanied by a caretaker, limited to one child per caretaker.
The observatory ticket is separate from the Namsan Cable Car fare. Using the cable car does not include admission to the observatory, and walking or taking a bus to the summit does not require an observatory ticket.

The tower complex also contains a gift shop, restaurants, and other visitor facilities. These businesses do not all follow the observatory timetable. Restaurant and shop hours should be checked separately when they form an essential part of the visit.
Observatory inquiries are handled at +82-2-3455-9277 or +82-2-3455-9288 / 02-3455-9277 or 02-3455-9288 in Korea. The general visitor information number listed for N Seoul Tower is +82-2-756-2486 / 02-756-2486 in Korea.
💡 Local Tip: Treat the summit and observatory as two different viewing experiences. The outdoor plaza remains accessible without an observatory ticket, while the paid deck follows fixed admission and closing rules.
4. Summit Plaza, Beacon Mounds, and Love Locks
The summit area includes more than the tower entrance. Stone beacon structures stand within the plaza, reflecting Namsan’s historic role in the capital’s communication and defense landscape. They provide a visible historical counterpoint to the broadcasting tower nearby.

The love-lock terraces form another distinct part of the summit. Locks are attached to designated railings and installations around the tower plaza, with the city and surrounding ridges visible beyond them.

The lock displays range from densely covered railings to smaller groups placed against the city view. They are an outdoor feature rather than part of the paid observatory. Visitors can see the installations while moving through the tower plaza.

The park’s paths and summit structures can be visited without committing to every paid attraction. A visit can therefore be organized around the mountain and public plaza, with the cable car and observatory added separately when their schedules and fares suit the plan.
🗣️ Korean Phrase: Namsan taweo eotteoke gayo? (남산타워 어떻게 가요?) means “How do I get to Namsan Tower?”
5. Practical Information for Namsan
Namsan Park is open 24 hours and throughout the year. N Seoul Tower, the observatory, the cable car, the outdoor inclined elevator, shops, and restaurants each have separate operating schedules. Late-evening access should therefore be checked facility by facility.
The park and summit also span different administrative addresses. Namsan Park is listed at 231 Samil-daero, Jung-gu, while N Seoul Tower is at 105 Namsangongwon-gil, Yongsan-gu. The cable-car lower station is at 83 Sopa-ro, Jung-gu. Use the address for the specific entrance or facility rather than treating all three as one location.
Private-vehicle access to the tower itself should not be assumed. The tower’s visitor guidance emphasizes walking, public buses, and the cable car, while parking information applies to designated facilities outside the summit approach. For a central-Seoul base, compare hotels in Myeongdong, near the cable-car side of Namsan.

A Namsan and N Seoul Tower visit can be planned as separate park, ascent, outdoor-summit, and paid-observatory components, each with its own operating conditions.
