Seodaemun & City Hall Hotels

October 22, 2026|by TripKorea Team

Seodaemun & City Hall Hotels connect two different sides of west-central Seoul: the Line 5 corridor around Seodaemun Station and the palace-and-office streets around City Hall. This guide separates those locations, including Seosomun and the Gwanghwamun-facing end of Sejong-daero, so you can choose a hotel around your daily route rather than a broad neighborhood label.

Where to Stay: Seodaemun, Seosomun or City Hall

Seodaemun (서대문) is both a district name and a station name, but they are not interchangeable when choosing accommodation. Shilla Stay Seodaemun is at 76 Chungjeong-ro, with its arrival directions centered on Seodaemun Station. Fraser Place Central is at 78 Tongil-ro, across the administrative boundary in Jung-gu. These are the western corridor choices here; neither should be selected simply because a booking page groups it with another Seoul district.

Seosomun (서소문) is the second location to distinguish. ENA Suite Hotel sits on Sejongdaero 11-gil in Seosomun-dong and uses City Hall Station for its directions, while Ramada Hotel and Suites Namdaemun is on Chilpae-ro. These addresses place the decision around the streets west and southwest of City Hall, not directly at Seodaemun Station. Compare this pair when the trip includes Seosomun history stops or a City Hall-based arrival.

Koreana Hotel forms the eastern, Gwanghwamun-facing end of the selection at 135 Sejongdae-ro. Its setting between Seoul City Hall and Gwanghwamun is a different proposition from staying at the Line 5 station. For a palace-centered itinerary, that distinction matters: an address on Sejong-daero puts the hotel comparison around the City Hall–Gwanghwamun axis, while Chungjeong-ro and Tongil-ro keep the focus farther west.

Transport: Match the Station to the Hotel

For Shilla Stay, the named arrival station is Seodaemun on Line 5, using Exit 7 or Exit 8. City Hall is the relevant station for ENA Suite, whose directions specify Exit 9 and connections to Lines 1 and 2. Chungjeongno connects Lines 2 and 5 and appears in the official directions for Seosomun Shrine History Museum. These station names describe distinct arrival points; they should not be treated as alternative spellings for one hotel zone.

From Incheon International Airport, Shilla Stay gives an airport-rail route via Gongdeok: take AREX to Gongdeok, transfer to Line 5, and leave at Seodaemun. For ENA Suite, the operator gives two different rail approaches. The all-stop airport train connects with Line 2 at Hongik University Station for City Hall; the AREX Express connects with Line 1 at Seoul Station for City Hall. Check the train service before boarding, because the Express and all-stop routes do not use the same transfer station.

From Gimpo International Airport, Shilla Stay lists Line 5 to Seodaemun without a subway transfer. ENA Suite instead lists a Line 5 journey with a change to Line 2 at Chungjeongno for City Hall. Choose the route for the actual hotel rather than following the first airport-to-central-Seoul itinerary you find. Keep the property address available for the final street approach, especially when the booking name contains Namdaemun or Seoul Station rather than the station used in the directions.

For a KTX arrival at Seoul Station, decide on the last leg separately from the intercity journey. ENA Suite’s rail directions identify the Line 1 connection from Seoul Station to City Hall. Ramada’s operator describes access to Seoul Station, City Hall and Seodaemun, but this guide does not turn that broad location statement into a walking-time promise. For Fraser Place Central and Koreana, use the operator’s current arrival guidance with your exact arrival platform and luggage needs rather than borrowing another hotel’s exit instructions.

Nearby Context: Deoksugung, Jeongdong and Seosomun

Deoksugung (덕수궁) gives the City Hall end of this corridor a clear sightseeing anchor. Daehanmun is the palace’s main gate at 99 Sejong-daero, near City Hall Station. A hotel chosen for this area can support a day organized around the palace rather than the Myeongdong shopping streets. Keep admission arrangements and any guard-changing program separate from the hotel booking; a photograph of the palace does not establish an event timetable.

The Deoksugung Stone Wall Path follows the palace boundary, with Jeongdong’s cafés and restaurants providing another layer to the surrounding streets. The tourism description also connects the path with nearby cultural facilities, including Seoul Museum of Art and Seoul Museum of History. Treat this as a neighborhood route to plan alongside a hotel stay, not as a promise that every property is immediately beside each museum. The actual hotel address remains the starting point for deciding which part of the route to visit.

Seosomun Shrine History Museum adds a different subject on the Chilpae-ro side. At 5 Chilpae-ro, it presents the history of Catholicism in the late Joseon period, with exhibition spaces below ground. The official Seoul travel guide identifies Chungjeongno Station on Lines 2 and 5, Exit 4, for the museum approach. That makes it a separate planning stop from Deoksugung: choose it for its history and exhibitions rather than treating all nearby attractions as one palace complex.

Keep nearby plans selective. A Deoksugung-and-Jeongdong day and a Seosomun museum visit give different reasons to favor one end of the corridor. They do not require booking a hotel in Myeongdong’s retail core, and this guide does not substitute shopping-district labels for those location choices. Confirm museum and palace opening information directly before visiting, and allow the hotel selection to follow the places you actually intend to use.

Seodaemun & City Hall Hotels: Five Different Bases

The five hotels below cover the western station corridor, Seosomun and the City Hall–Gwanghwamun side. They are alternatives within a broader west-central area, not five properties at Seodaemun Station. Compare the street location first, then the room arrangement and facilities; breakfast, parking and facility access should be checked against the room rate you select.

ENA Suite Hotel Namdaemun

ENA Suite Hotel Namdaemun places the stay at 36 Sejongdaero 11-gil in Seosomun-dong, with City Hall Station Exit 9 specified in its directions. Family-room options and Wi-Fi provide useful points to compare for a shared stay, while the operator also identifies an Italian restaurant and indoor pool among the hotel facilities. Choose it for a City Hall-based arrival rather than interpreting Namdaemun in the name as a Seodaemun Station address.

Koreana Hotel

Koreana Hotel sits at 135 Sejongdae-ro between City Hall and Gwanghwamun, giving this selection its northern Sejong-daero option. Its dining venues and family-room choices distinguish it from a station-only stopover, with the operator also describing coin-operated laundry among its services. This is the hotel to compare when the City Hall–Gwanghwamun part of the itinerary matters more than a Line 5 exit at Seodaemun.

Fraser Place Central Seoul Residence

Fraser Place Central Seoul Residence is the apartment-style alternative at 78 Tongil-ro, rather than the separate Fraser Place Namdaemun property. The operator describes furnished residences with kitchenette arrangements, plus an indoor swimming pool, making the room format a meaningful distinction for stays involving meals at the accommodation. Check the particular studio or apartment configuration instead of assuming every residence has the same layout.

Shilla Stay Seodaemun Seoul Station

Shilla Stay Seodaemun Seoul Station is the direct Seodaemun Station choice in this group: the operator gives 76 Chungjeong-ro and Line 5 Exits 7 or 8. Restaurant Café and a gym provide on-site dining and exercise options without changing its main role as a station-focused city hotel. Although Seoul Station appears in the booking name, use the Seodaemun directions for this property rather than treating it as a hotel at the KTX station entrance.

Ramada Hotel and Suites Namdaemun

Ramada Hotel and Suites Namdaemun is the Chilpae-ro option at number 27, giving it a different street setting from ENA Suite and Koreana. Wi-Fi and breakfast service are confirmed by the operator, alongside meeting-room facilities; breakfast availability should not be read as inclusion in every rate. Compare it for a Seosomun-side stay, keeping the property’s own arrival directions separate from the Seodaemun Station instructions used for Shilla Stay.

Choosing Between the Five Hotels

Start with the arrival station if your schedule is fixed around rail travel. Shilla Stay has the clearest Seodaemun Station instructions in this group. ENA Suite has a specifically documented City Hall exit and both all-stop and Express airport-rail approaches. That is a comparison of the published directions, not a claim that either hotel has the shortest journey from every airport terminal or intercity platform.

Then compare how the room will be used. Fraser Place Central’s residence format is different from choosing a standard city-hotel room. ENA Suite and Koreana list family-oriented room options, but the name of a room category does not settle bed arrangements, maximum occupancy or child policies. Open the exact room offer before paying, and check any requirements that matter to your party rather than inferring them from a hotel photograph.

Finally, anchor the sightseeing plan to the right streets. City Hall and Sejong-daero are the reference points for Deoksugung and the Gwanghwamun-facing part of the trip; Chilpae-ro gives the Seosomun history visit a separate focus. Chungjeong-ro and Tongil-ro are the western alternatives. This approach keeps the selection useful even when the same hotel appears under a broader central-Seoul marketing label.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are all five hotels beside Seodaemun Station?

No. Shilla Stay uses Seodaemun Station Exits 7 or 8, while ENA Suite uses City Hall Station Exit 9. Fraser Place Central is on Tongil-ro, Ramada on Chilpae-ro, and Koreana on Sejongdae-ro between City Hall and Gwanghwamun.

Which option has apartment-style accommodation?

Fraser Place Central offers furnished residences with kitchenette arrangements. Check the selected studio or apartment for its particular layout and amenities. Do not confuse it with Fraser Place Namdaemun, which is a separate property.

How do I reach this area from Incheon Airport by train?

For Shilla Stay, the operator lists AREX to Gongdeok followed by Line 5 to Seodaemun. For ENA Suite, it lists the all-stop airport train via Hongik University and Line 2, or AREX Express via Seoul Station and Line 1, to City Hall. These are hotel-specific approaches rather than a single route for all five properties.

Is Seosomun Shrine History Museum the same as Deoksugung?

No. The museum at 5 Chilpae-ro focuses on the history of Catholicism in the late Joseon period. Deoksugung is a palace near City Hall, with Daehanmun as its main gate; plan the two as separate visits.

Does a hotel name guarantee its nearest station or included services?

No. Names containing Namdaemun or Seoul Station do not replace the property address and arrival instructions. Confirm the exact room offer for breakfast, parking, occupancy and facility access before booking.
